Tensor fascie latae

Muscle function: Hip flexion, abduction and internal rotation. Control of Ilium. Control of Fibula and knee through the IT band.

 

Muscle origin: Area on the outer lip of anterior iliac crest to the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)

Muscle insertion: Runs superficially to the anterior part of the greater trochantor and the continues throught the IT band to the head of the Fibula and lateral condyle of Tibia

Nerve innervation: L4-S1 (Lovett reactor C1-2)

Organ relationship: Large intestine

  • Sympathetic: T10-L2
  • Parasympathetic: Vagus and S2-S4
Anterior part
Client is supine with the test leg extended and placed in 40 deg. hip flexion, 30 deg abduction and full internal hip rotation. Fiksate with one hand on the opposite leg and apply pressure on the test leg in an oblique angle down towards the opposite ankle with the other hand.
Posterior part
Client is supine with the test leg extended and placed in 25 deg. hip flexion, 15 deg abduction and full internal hip rotation. Fiksate with one hand on the opposite leg and apply pressure on the test leg towads adduction with the other hand.
